2023 Virtual Workshop Series – MICROWAVE 101

Dr. Norun Farihah Abdul Malek graduated with Honours in Communication Engineering from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Kuala Lumpur in 2006. Following this, she became an Assistant Lecturer at IIUM and pursued a Master’s degree in Digital Communication Systems at Loughborough University in 2007. She gained a keen interest in academia and subsequently completed her PhD in Communication Engineering with IIUM in 2013. After completing her doctorate, she was appointed as an Assistant Professor at IIUM, where she continues to serve as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. In 2020, she completed an attachment with Intel Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. under the MOHE-Intel Elite Internship Program. Dr. Norun Farihah has secured numerous grants amounting up to MYR500K. She was awarded the IEEE Volunteer Award in 2021 and 2022, as well as the Best Paper in 2022 by IEEE AP/MTT/EMC Malaysia Joint Chapter Society. In 2022, she was promoted to Associate Professor by IIUM. Due to her strong passion for volunteering, she was selected as IEEE STEM Champion 2023 by IEEE. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Zoinol Abidin Abd Aziz is a lecturer at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka. He received his PhD in 2015 from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in the area of Wireless MIMO Communication system. He is currently the Director of Center of Excellent (CoE) at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and member of Center of Telecommunication Research and Innovation (CeTRI) at Faculty of Electronic & Computer Engineering. He was the executive committee member of IEEE Microwave Theory & technique / Antenna and Propagation / Electromagnetic Compatibility joint chapter since 2020. To date, he has published more than 70 International Journal and about 100 proceeding papers.  Currently, his research area are antenna and microwave component design, Wireless MIMO communication system, Material Characterization and Microwave Imaging.

Dr. Pragash Sangaran earned a Ph.D. in electronic engineering from the University of Malaya and a Master’s degree from the University of Science Malaysia. He is the co-founder and director of Innowave LLC, a Silicon Valley company. At Innowave, he has made significant inventions that lead to five US patents filed in RF circuit design, RF antenna design, and IoT design. He has more than 10 IEEE and IET papers published. He is a Keysight Certified Expert and author for IIoT World. He is currently sharing his RF circuit design knowledge on the Innowave YouTube channel. He is also a member of IoT WG, Malaysian Technical Standard Forum Berhad. He has more than 18 years of working experience in the design and development of RF circuits, Internet of Things (IoT), and embedded systems with Motorola solutions, Embedded wireless labs Sdn Bhd, and Innowave LLC. He also has vast experience in product certification, such as PTCRB, FCC, IC, CE, and GCF. He has successfully designed many RF circuits and radio products for consumer and military applications using wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, GNSS, Satellite, VHF and UHF.
