10:00 – 10:10Introduction by Moderator
10:10 – 10:25Speaker 1: Mr. Safpbri Johari (Universiti Malaysia Perlis, UNiMAP)
Title: Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface

Abstract: Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) emerge as a promising technology to improve wireless communication. These passive devices manipulate radio waves, enhancing signal strength and coverage, particularly in challenging environments. RIS deployments offer potential benefits like reduced infrastructure needs compared to traditional base stations, potentially leading to improved aesthetics and lower public concern. However, integration with existing networks and ongoing research on long-term societal impacts are crucial considerations.
10:25 – 10:40Speaker 2: Ms. Nida Nasir (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, UTM)
Title: Wide Band, High Gain Substrate Integrated Waveguide Dielectric Resonator Antenna for 5G Applications
10:40 – 10:55Speaker 3: Mrs. Afiza Nur Jaafar (Universiti Teknologi MARA, UiTM)
Title: EM Simulation Method for Radio Wave Propagation in Freshwater

Abstract: This study explores antenna designs and electromagnetic propagation for underwater use, focusing on a 433 MHz frequency in the ISM band. An axial-mode helical antenna in a distilled water-filled capsule (to prevent conductivity issues) is used. Tests in a 1.2-meter deep pool show propagation attenuation aligns with zero-conductivity conditions. It is clarified that the propagation attenuation agrees very well with the attenuation of the zero-water conductivity condition. However, at some distances, unexpected attenuation decreases happen. In electromagnetic simulations of underwater electric distributions, perfect reflections at the water surface effect the attenuation. The effect of surface reflection on radio propagation is a new finding to accurately evaluate propagation attenuation.
11:00 – 12:00Main Speaker:

1. Ms. Siti Nur Anis Binti Sukito (DAR Energy Sdn. Bhd.)
2. Ms. Nor Fadziellaiha Binti Yaakub (TCG Sdn. Bhd.)

Title: Antenna Application – Telecommunication in O&G

Abstract: The oil and gas industry operates in diverse and often remote environments, presenting numerous challenges for communication and monitoring systems. Antennas are pivotal in overcoming these challenges by facilitating reliable data transmission, remote monitoring, and ensuring safety across exploration, production, and distribution operations. The session will provide an overview of the applications of antennas in the oil and gas industry focusing on their role in enhancing communication, surveillance, and safety protocols. Various types of antennas, such as directional, omnidirectional, and satellite communication systems, are explored for their suitability in different operational contexts. This session will unfold the technology selection, engineering design, detailed design, and on-site applications such as process platforms, FPSO & onshore/plant.
